Avienani was always intended to be a project that delved into the unseen, you could perhaps call it the spiritual or metaphysical realm of music. While Chad & I both come from more pop-oriented bands, which focus on song structures, lyrics, and always have some sort of hook, Avienani will be a reprieve.
This is not to say that we are focusing less on our other projects, but that we will be focusing more holistically on the art by the creation of the antithesis of what we've already created. What we create on one end will always have reprocussions on the out-of-focus end. Avienani will take that fuzz and amplify it. Balance is at the center.
I feel strongly that this will also help to clarify the sound of BL and Agnes, at least where our parts are concerned. There are songs like Boomerang, Astronauts, and Upon a Mountain that are clearly destined for Between Liberties. However, while have and could certainly continue producing songs like The Promise, Empty House and Incantations, they seem to be more appropriate for Avienani. It will be fun to see if there are songs (Empty House may exemplify this) which will be able to hold their own in both bands, songs that we can both perform which will take on entirely new lives depending on the project.
With this said, we jammed with a very talented drummer named Melanie last night. We have planned to do it again sometime soon. Chad & I had both decided recently that it was time for Avienani to play the phoenix, so this seems like a natural progression. World, it is a pleasure introducing Mel. I hope I can share more about her soon.
